The Garage Sale...and other 'sales'

Kent and I are trying to play catch-up with a few blog posts from this whirlwind summer....so this one will be short and sweet. Actually, it's bittersweet. We are so excited about the big move to England, but it's tough to sell off almost everything we own. It took almost 3 months to liquidate down to 90 cubic feet of boxed household goods plus 8 suitcases, but we did it. A few pics below to capture all of the "sales."

The Garage Sale

First, we started with a garage sale. Our condo complex was having a huge community sale, where they did all of the advertising and all we had to do was open our garage and we're in business. Kent and I did not even fathom this massive undertaking we decided to participate in only 6 days before. We literally worked 50 hours that week getting ready....where did all of this STUFF come from?! We are so lucky that my parents were in town to help on the day of, especially to 'regulate'! Mom guarded the door to the house and Dad stood at the end of the driveway with Kent, the money man. If you've ever hosted a garage sale, you know how hectic it is....and I'm not sure we will ever do it again. We sold a ton of our stuff, but taking it to Salvation Army is just so much easier!

An Ode to Craigslist....

For the next few months, we became Craigslist power sellers. This is one of the best web site ideas ever. People would buy almost anything within hours of listing! Give it up for Craigslist!

Goodbye for now, Scofield

After a new coat of paint and new carpet, our house was ready to be put on the market! Well, the market didn't really respond (the one thing Craigslist didn't come through for) so we put a tiny little sign in the front yard "For Lease." A few days later....a realtor and his client saw the sign, called and asked to see the place, signed a lease and handed over their deposit! The catch - she wanted to move in two days! So we got busy and threw everything haphazardly in to a UHaul. It was sad to say goodbye to my first home purchase, and the place where Kent and I began our married life together, but on to bigger and better things! We're relieved that we don't have to worry about the house anymore. So goodbye for now Scofield, we'll see you soon!

And finally....the most bittersweet sale of all....the BBD. We sent her to a good home in Dallas.
