The ball was held at a really cool venue called Middle Temple Hall. It's a huge, gorgeous complex that has something to do with the legal system here - a meeting place (and dormitory I think) for barristers, judges, law students. It's right on the Thames in the heart of London (near Embankment). The chose this venue because they thought it would remind everyone of an Oxford dining hall - and it did only much larger!
We rode the train with several other MBAs and we all shared taxis over to Middle Temple....arriving to find a champagne reception in the beautiful gardens. It was really well done - including a Motown singer (see his wild outfit in the background here?).
We then moved inside for a fantastic three course dinner accompanied by a long winded speech from the Dean recapping the year of Said Business School. We shared a table with a group of Russians - one studying at the business school and the rest jsut off the plane from Moscow for a visit. We had some interesting conversations over dinner!
After dinner, we enjoyed an amazing chocolate fountain and "vodka luge" where they poured the vodka down the ice sculpture to get cold, landing in a glass at the bottom. We danced the night away to the live band - good times!
The next day, we "had a lie-in" (aka slept in) and went for a nice brunch with our hosts. They went off to look at apartments....they are moving after many years in NW London to be closer to the center. Since they were starting their flat search in South Kensington, we just strolled around the neighborhood before we had to catch our train back to Oxford. We stopped in the Victoria & Albert museum to see a cool photography exhibit and walked through a few other "time periods." We saw a few fancy cars (Kent with some rare Mercedes McLaren here - I liked the vintage Ferrari) and stopped in to the little piece of Austin TX in London - Whole Foods!!
